Game Day Warm-up (ONE Touch Layoff)

The following drill comes from the Soccer Awareness Training Center! Find out how you can access more than 600 drills, training sessions, videos and more.

Area: 15 x 15

Routine: A well weighted pass to the center cone; where a player is waiting to layoff a pass and back pedal out of the way to create a new passing lane for the player standing on the cone opposite of where the play originated.

A third player receives and dribbles at full speed back to the line. Player sprint and follow their pass and be ready for the next pass.

Coaching Points:

  1. Mental and physical preparation for the game

  2. Players pass, receive and move off the ball at GAME speed

  3. Quality of the pass: weight, timing, angle; accuracy

  4. Intensity at every stage to be prepared for the game

Players move to the cones to receive the pass. Moving left to right the player must position so they receive the ball with the OUTSIDE / OPPOSITE foot. This opens their body position up to be able to either pass back or in a different direction very easily and very quickly because they are already balanced and ready.
